Playoffs are back in town

Blue skies, spring in the air and playoff finals, what more is there? It was a great day for hockey. 2004 spectators were gathered at Trio Areena for the game 2 in the Mestis finals of 2016-2017. It was a full house and the fans had to queue to get in. SapKo was stronger winning the game overwhelmingly 6-1. The scoreline indicated a one sided game, something that it was not. SapKo was simply more effective in front of the goal capitalizing from every opportunity that was given to them while Kiekko-Vantaa struggled when it mattered the most. Kiekko-Vantaa’s only goal was scored by Niklas Andersson. The series continues today with game 3 in Savonlinna.

Finally, the finals!

A 14-year wait has come to an end and Kiekko-Vantaa is finally in the finals.
Kiekko-Vantaa won yet another thrilling encounter against TUTO when Frank Gymer was able to score an OT goal in the 2nd overtime period. The game was even and both teams had plenty of opportunities to take the victory. Kiekko-Vantaa won the series against TUTO 4-2 and will advance to the finals. In the finals they will clash against the unbeaten SaPko from Savonlinna. The first encounter will take place on Wednesday 12.4 in Savonlinna.

Kiekko-Vantaa fail at closing the deal

Kiekko-Vantaa was unable to close the deal and continue to the finals in front of 1240 spectators. TUTO was just stronger winning the game 3-1. The referees surely decided to get involved in the game and both teams were served 4 penalties. 3 of the 4 goals were scored on powerplay. Kiekko-Vantaa leads the series 3-1. The series will continue on Wednesday in Turku.

El Marathonico

Kiekko-Vantaa clashed against TUTO in the second game of the series. The game lasted for 157 minutes and 54 seconds making it the longest hockey game in the Finnish history. This unprepared photographer did not anticipate such a marathon of a hockey game and was forced to call it a night after 6 periods of play when the camera batteries died. The game ended to 4-3 for Kiekko-Vantaa who now leads the series 2-0. This time there is no commentary on the pictures because the next game is about to start in few hours in Turku and it is a couple hours drive to get there. Kiekko-Vantaa vs. Jokipojat – Mestis, Playoff round 1 – Game 3 – 2016-2017 @ Trio Areena

Convincing victory in game 3 of the first playoff series against Jokipojat. Game ended 5-1 after great play by the salmons of Vantaa. Kiekko-Vantaa now leads the series 3-0. The next game is away on Monday and it is make it or break it for Jokipojat.
